Stretch Marks and Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion has, for some time now, been one of the most popular skin care treatments available from professional cosmetic clinics and beauty salons/spas. Most folk know the treatment because of it’s wonderful successes in the area of anti-aging skin care but it is also extremely effective in treating many other problems such as stretch marks.
Often referred to as a “sandblasting of the face” due to the methods and processes involved in the treatment, microdermabrasion removes dead and dying skin cells with the aid of fine, medical grade, crystals. The crystals are forced onto the face, by a special machine, via a wand which then sucks up the residue. By the removal of dead skin cells and dirt the treatment encourages the skin to renew and the production of collagen is increased. Because of this the procedure is excellent for the removal of stretch marks and minor scars, such as acne scars.
Unfortunately, if your stretch marks are extremely deep, microdermabrasion may not reduce their visibility to a satisfactory degree. Do not believe all the hype that surrounds skin care treatments, this treatment is one of the very best but it can not perform miracles. In such cases the only real solution is cosmetic surgery so you should seek professional medical advice at the earliest opportunity.
If you are lucky and your stretch marks, or acne scars, are not too deep, then microdermabrasion may be the perfect answer to your problems. It has been medically proven that the procedure is extremely effective in removing such things as crow’s feet and other fine lines on the face. It has also been proven that it can drastically reduce the appearance of scars, such as stretch marks, so well in fact that you need to make a close inspection to identify where they were!
It appears strange that some women suffer from stretch marks while others have no problems at all, even when pregnant. The reasons for this are complex but much has to do with the elasticity of the skin in the first place. Stretch marks appear when the skin is stretched beyond the point at which it can recover and the collagen collapses or is damaged. While microdermabrasion stimulates the natural processes of the skin it also leads to an increase in the production of collagen which further helps in the regeneration of the skin and the removal of such scarring.
Some believe prevention is better than cure and there are certainly plenty of skin care products which claim to reduce the risk of stretch marks. While most work upon the principle that skin elasticity is increased using moisturizers some do seem to be somewhat effective. Unfortunately results vary greatly and accurate measurement is not really possible. It is also possible to suffer from stretch marks even if you use all the products available.
If you have just given birth it is advisable that you care for yourself and your skin. You need to recover as quickly as possible and a good diet it crucial to early recovery. The application of skin creams and other skin care treatments may be a good idea but it would be worth seeking medical advice rather than self medication.
More and more women are choosing to take a weekend away to visit a health spa. At these health spas you can try out a vast variety of treatments and generally relax. As many such places offer microdermabrasion this could be the perfect opportunity to try it out for the first time.
